Light for Life with John O'Hagan

7.30pm Wednesday 10th May 2023

Light is important for life. In this talk, John O’Hagan will outline how humans use light for vision, the potential harm from too much light and the non-vision benefits of light exposure. These will be discussed in the context of modern, often indoor, lifestyles and the progression from traditional to newer lighting technologies. There are some things we know well that allow us to provide specific advice to the public, but much that requires further research. This talk is delivered in conjunction with the International Day of Light.

Professor John O’Hagan is Vice-President Standards of the International Commission on Illumination and Visiting Professor of Laser and Optical Radiation Safety at Loughborough University. Before retiring from full-time employment in 2022, he was a public health scientist for 46 years.
