Dog mess - plea for people to bag it and bin it.

on Sat, 22/07/2023 - 5:42pm

Our beautiful village walks are being blighted by an increase level of dog fouling.

There seems to be a missunderstanging that puting your waste in a bag and leaving on the path or verge that it will disappear.  Biodegradeable bags still need to placed in the bins where they can be taken somewhere to degrade!

Please be a considerate dog owner and deal with bag it and bin it

Thank you

Please keep your dogs on leads around farm animals

on Fri, 29/10/2021 - 9:47am

Police and the National Farmers Union are encouraging dog owners to keep their dogs on lead around any livestock regardless of the dog’s behaviour.

Dogs owners can face fines of up to £1000 as well as a jail term of six months if their dog is caught off lead around farms and worrying livestock.

Whatever the time of year, your dog should always be on the lead around livestock. But even if your dog is off-lead in an empty field, it should still stay on the footpath and be within your sight – you should be confident that you can call it back otherwise, it should be on the lead.

It's a crime not to clear up after your dog if it fouls a footpath, verge or public space

on Tue, 25/02/2020 - 2:33pm

Dog poo is an emotive issue for dog owners and others.

Under the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996 a person who is in charge of a dog must clean up after it when it fouls any footpath, highway, verge or other open space to which the public have access.  It is therefore a crime to allow a dog to foul in any public area without clearing it up.  Those that fail to do so could face a fixed penalty notice of £50 or prosecution.

Bonfires - please be safe & considerate

on Thu, 29/08/2019 - 3:24pm

If you have a bonfire, please be considerate & follow these guidelines from VoWHDC and the Fire Brigade:

  • Out of courtesy, inform your neighbours that you are proposing to have a bonfire
  • Avoid burning on hot, sunny days, weekends and bank holidays when people want to enjoy their gardens
  • Avoid lighting a fire in unsuitable weather conditions - smoke hangs in the air on damp or warm, still days and in the evening
  • Ensure that your bonfire is at least 100 metres from any thatched properties
  • Only burn dry 'clean' wood/garden waste
  • Do not burn household rubbish, such as plastic, foam, paint or rubber
  • Do
